Hillside Angus Farm has been linebreeding certain Angus Family genetics since our inception in 1982. Our primary bloodlines are the Schearbrook Shoshone family and the Rito family. We can trace both of these families back to Formosa of Portlethen, born May 7, 1865, who is linebred to Duke of Wellington, American Angus Association registration number 294. In the case of the Rito family, our emphasis has been on the blood of Rito 707 of Ideal 533 70 and his full brother in blood, Rito 707 of Ideal 836 71 and Band 234 of Ideal 3163, better known as The Band 105 Bull. In the case of the Schearbrook Shoshone Family we used the bull himself at first and later the blood of his sons and grandsons.
The majority of Hillside bred females are crossed to both these families with emphasis on the traits of certain ancestral individuals for each mating as we design our genetic model. We are always striving for a balanced, high-performance female that fleshes easy, breeds easy, weans a heavy calf and delivers the carcass and other economic traits desired by our industry. We select females that pass on these traits to their offspring and have a pleasing phenotype with sound structure and excellent udders and teats.
